The Office of Treasurer is responsible for the collection, custody and disbursement of County funds originating from the tax levies and other fees authorized by the Buchanan County Board of Supervisors. The Treasurer is elected at-large for a four year term.

Local Taxes

Real Estate – Due December 5th of each year

Real Estate tax rate: $0.39 per $100 of fair market value

Method of Valuation: Countywide property reassessment every six years.

Machinery & Tools tax rate: $1.95 per $100 of valuation

Method of Valuation: 100% of original cost in first year;

then decreases by 10% annually to 50%

Personal Property – Due December 5th each Year

Personal Property tax rate: $1.95 per $100 of NADA Loan Value Mineral tax rate: $0.39 per $100
